Wooden Masamune
Finally uploaded a picture of this thing.

So much earlier in 2008, my friend was going to have his birthday. He was and still is a big fan of Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, that's 7 for those of you who don't read roman numerals.

So anyways I decide to get him something Sephiroth for his birthday. Now me being who I am would rather craft something then buy something. And the idea for making Sephrioth's sword, the Masamune, occurs. Reallizing how big the sword is I set to work getting measurements and what not.

3 hours of blueprinting, wood shopping, and crafting later I produce this thing. It is a 1:1 scale wooden replica of the Masamune, that is to say it is the exact same size.

The sword is made of pine wood. It is 53 inches (1.3462 Meters) long. The blade and handle is made from a single piece of wood. I drew the design on in pencil and used a jigsaw to cut the blade out. I used a router and sander to bevel the blade's "edge" on the curved side. I used a disc sander on all the edges to remove any sharp corners and splinters. The guard is made from an extra piece of wood from the same piece that made the blade. The guard had a hole cut into the middle of it with a drill then the shape of the blade cut out with a jigsaw. There is a single screw holding the guard in place.

The blade is coated with an aluminum foil based tape, also know as metal tape. The handle and guard are coated in yellow and white duct tape, I always have a lot of the stuff around. The cloth on the handle is a single piece of red cloth (the proper color, black, wasn't available) that I hot glued and pressed into place with clamps.

When I test swung the blade in my back yard it actually handles really well. So well in fact I kinda didn't want to give it up. But a gift is a gift.

The stand is made from the left over wood from the project. Then had the issue of getting the monster into a box and transported to his party.

Needless to say my friend really liked getting this.

I put the Wii in the picture as a scale reference.
