I Am Not Against Peace
Ashura looked back as the black slab slamed shut. He sighed heavily, "That should hold them off for a few minutes. But they'll get through quickly."He looked at his companion, the two of them had been running from these monsters since they arrived in the area. Now they had gotten into a cave and Ashura had blown the entrance's supports out.
"What do you suppose those things are?" the female hedgehog asked.
Ashura looked at the door as red cracks began to appear on it. The soft glow illuminated the cave.
Ashura slamed his fist into a rock, "I don't know. If I knew where we were I might be able to figure it out. But ever since I was brought to this rock nothing has made sense."
The young hedgehog looked at him, "Ashura..."
Ashura looked her in the eye, an unusually soft expression on his face, "They'll be through in a minute. Run, I'll stay and buy you time."
His compaion looked horrified, "You can't! There has to be a way out without fighting like this."
Ashura shook his head, "That's exactly why you need to run. We need someone peaceable at the end of this, to see reason and get everyone one home."
She took a step back and Ashura looked over at the door. White hot cracks were appearing in the material. His compainion started to protest, "But you're so violent, how do you see peace as a solution so well?"
Ashura turned his head back, "Look its not that I'm against peace or anything, I'm actually for it. That's why you need to live, to help bring a peace. But I too have a role, there are those who will not be happy with peace, and thus warriors like me must fight to protect others."
His companion blinked several times and turned around, her hand clenched over her heart. She didn't need to help him see peace, he already knew it. "Be careful" was all she said, tears in her eyes.
Ashura turned his head silently toward the door and readied himself, "Go now, my brothers are beyond this cave. All of you need to get everyone back home."
The young hedgehog darted deep into the cave. Ashura's face remained unchanged as the barricade collapsed, "Change of plans, I'm not running any more. Let's settle this my way."
Part of a scene I have had planned out. Nothing more and nothing less.
No this enigmatic young hedgehog is not a permanent character in my lineup, present just for this.
Overall I have had this story excerpt in my head for a while. It shows a bit more of the usually hot headed and grumpy
Ashura's personality.
